Gorgeous Day!

Splendid sunshine brightens my day!

Gorgeous King Cove

Today is one of the most striking days I have seen since the first day I came to King Cove. It astonishes me how sunshine boosts your mood! I wanted to spend all day in the beautiful sunshine & play with Tucker. So as soon as I got home he & I went on a walk, strolling down to the beach enjoying the warm sunlight along with a cool breeze. Before I could even tell him to go get the birds in the water he had already dived in & was on his way out to catch some seagulls! ha silly nuggy. I'm always amazed he loves to play in freezing cold water! As soon as my feet felt the chilly temperature it took my breath away, only worsened when Tuck would splash by me at full speed.

Waiting to see if the birds land
Swimming is what he does best! This little Golden would live in the water if he could, watching him hop his way towards the birds in an effort just to catch one was absolute comedy. He finally gave up wasting his energy splashing his way towards them, he jetted right out thinking he could swipe one out in the ocean. He swam so far out there it made me nervous! Never mind my whistles & hollering, all this pup had on his mind was birds!! "gotta get one! gotta get ONE! I'm gonna get ONE!! ....Aw ma just be quiet already you ruin all my fun!" ha I imagine he was thinking this about me when he was just about to have some real fun. Well soon enough he'll get his first bird, after all our home is well known for its world class duck hunting. Soon enough he'll be having the time of his life!
See him way out in the water, crazy pup :]
He'd swim out there for hours if I let him

On another note I went Halibut fishing all day Sunday, and scored!
Here is the end result after splitting up the share with the neighbors/co workers, needless to say Travis and I are going to be eating well the next month. Waahoo! It was a great fishing adventure, I have been wanting to go since I arrived in Alaska and it's never a dull moment here in King Cove.

After a long day of fishing it was time for some beer battered halibut! Mmm
There isn't much better than fresh fish & this little recipe is actually quite simple. I'd say this was quite a rewarding meal at the end of the day, and it was more than we could finish!
Absolutely delicious!
Ingredients: Halibut, flour, 1 coors light ;) & a splash of garlic salt

Also Saturday I was eager to go on a hike! I woke up early, showered, got ready, made some breakfast and headed out instead of working. I mean who in their right mind wants to work all day Saturday when there is hardly anything to do? Which let me briefly explain, I came out to King Cove expecting to begin work on the access road May 15th. Unloaded all the equipment off the barge, moved it out to the jobsite, and set up our field offices. Unfortunately our project has been pushed back due to a bear den survey & birds nesting window. Meaning we are unable to begin blasting our pit for fear of the possibility a bear could still be denned within the perimeter or a bird might still be nesting. So to take proper precaution the project has been pushed back to begin June 15th, and it will be here soon enough. But even with that said I stay quite busy throughout the week I almost wish there was more time in the day. Hiring, payroll, reports, office managing its no wonder I was acheing to go out for a hike!
About to begin the hike, Tuck was just as excited!
So out I ventured, for a full day of roaming! Starting with the tucked away valley I have been eyeing since day one. Once back in the valley it was easy being aware of your surroundings as the trees have not started turning green. When everything blooms and gorgeous green bursts through it will be extremely difficult to spot bears, wolves and wolverines let alone any other lethal creature. After hiking around the valley I decided to head more up the mountain to one of the many gorgeous waterfalls. I have been wanting to go to one for some time now, and I was excited! While ascending up the mountain it is amazing to hike through something you only look at, I say this because looking at the path to the waterfall didn't seem impossible. Yes it was going to be a difficult hike, but as soon as I came closer visibility of the surroundings dissapeared. With trees & bushes as tall as me, making it difficult to try and hike. Getting closer to the waterfall only made our situation worse, now I couldn't hear anything but loud running water. I immediatley knew it wasn't a smart idea, I began getting irritated with the situation but pressed on. Until an uncanny sound reached my ears from a distance. Without hesitation I knew it was time to turn around and get out of the shrubs. Swiftly making my trek back to the truck I felt more and more at ease now having full visibility and no sounds of running water near me.
I loaded Tucker up and decided to drive to the end of the road so that I may shoot a couple rounds off. On my way back I slammed on the brakes to take a closer look. And sure enough looking up on the hillside running effortlessly through the brush, that I could bearly be seen in, was a massive brown bear! I took the binoculars and was astonished at the pure magnitude of his size upclose, he was a DIESEL! I have never seen a bear out in the wild before, and the eerie feeling sank deep in my stomach watching him tear through the same brush & shrubs I was just in that I could bearly walk through. He was in a hurry disappearing into the wild before I could snap a photo. I couldn't believe the story that I had to tell now, regardless to say I LOVE my adventurous life in Alaska!!
Beginning the hike, excited!
Entering the shrubs & brush down at the valley

After returning from my exciting hike I thought this sign next to my house was quite commical, I always think 'Now entering bear country....beware!' haha
I could throw a rock at this sign from my house
I live in Bear Country!

Happy Birthday Momo!

It's my little Momo's birthday! This big boy is turning 4 years old today, gee how time flies!

Well I wanted to take a moment and just say, This little man melts my heart everyday, his sweetness is precious and I will never grow tired of it. He is so full of life and laughter I am so blessed to have him as my nephew. Every moment I spend with him we are always laughing, playing, & having the time of our life. It makes me think about when the time comes for me to have children, and my heart is warmed knowing they will have a great cousin. He will always be in my heart & there is nothing more in the world than wishing I could be there with him today! I love you darling Momo & miss you unbelievably! Muah!

Life these days...

Life in King Cove is unlike any place I have ever lived, being all settled in now leaves extra time on my hands to get out and explore this gorgeous place. I hopped into a rig and began to drive, many of the roads outside the town are dirt with hardly any other drivers. So I kick Tucker out of the truck in hopes of eliminating his restlessness by running alongside the truck.
He loves venturing at full speed in open wilderness! I’ve never seen a pup so eager to be tuckered out, he is just the cutest thing. I’m so glad he has been able to join in the great Alaska adventure, I feel truly blessed the landlord approved him to stay. The thought of ever giving Tucker up is an awful thought! Nevertheless it’s wonderful to come home to a happy loving pup who always puts a smile on my face :] I should also mention I am amazed at what an athlete he is! Running continuously at 25 miles an hour is stunning, and believe me it’s not just for a couple miles.
I love my nuggy's smiles! :]

Well on another note I received a surprise gift...........Check out my new shotty!!!

What a wonderful surprise!

This baby is a 12 Gauge Remington 870 Super Mag, embellished with a camo pump & stock, it’s a ‘to die for’ beauty! What's more is she shoots beautifully, the kick back is more than bearable my jaw dropped after I shot it and I'm excited not to have a sore spot on my shoulder.
I shot at plastic bottles filled with rocks allowing Tucker to retrieve them, gearing him up for duck hunting. It’s impressive to see how much he loves retrieving, living up to his breed makes me one proud mama!

I am a lucky woman to have such an opportunity to live in such a gorgeous part of the world! Life is beautiful....
